Rashmi Samant Resigns From Oxford Student Union's President After Racist Behavior By Faculty

Rashmi Samant, a 22-year-old student from the Udupi district of Karnataka in India became the First President of the student union at Oxford University in England.

But due to online bullying and trolling by some faculty and a group of people having a 'Radical Racist Mindset' forced her to such an extent that she had to resign from her post just 5 days later when was appointed as the President.

She was primarily trolled by radical trollers because she was a 'Hindu'. She was targeted brutally in the United Kingdom which claims itself to be a developed and liberal nation.

Earlier, there were just words and not visual proof that some section of the society in Britain is 'Hinduphobic'. But now there is clear proof that it exists and in a strong way that made an innocent-hardworking girl resign from a great post due to racism.

Story of Rashmi Samant:

Rashmi Samant was born in the Udupi district of Karnataka in India. Neither of her parents had any university degree or very rich.

In spite of this, Rashmi solely with her talent managed to secure admission to the Oxford University. She had an abundance of great knowledge on climate change in the world.

She was very keen to find a method that would revolutionize the current way man uses the resources to obtain energy for a cleaner and greener environment.

Traditionally, whenever an Indian girl goes abroad for higher education all by herself, she does face a lot of insecurities due to various factors.

To overcome such insecurities which could possibly affect her learning heavily, Rashmi Samant participated in the Oxford Student Union President Elections.

Not only she participated with full spirit, she even Won the elections and became the First-ever Indian woman elected to be the President of the Oxford Student Union.

What Exactly Happened?

As soon as she was declared as the president of the Student Union of Oxford University, there was jealousy and anger among a particular group of people who simply couldn't digest her success.

She was then bullied online by many trollers with a 'baseless' reason of few social media posts she had posted 4-5 years ago.

She was even THREATENED over emails stating damage and violence.

A huge number of lengthy articles were published in the student newspaper against her. She was made a soft target.

The pressure became too much to bear for her and unfortunately, she resigned from her post 5 days later after the declaration of the election results.

The trolling didn't stop here. A 'racist-minded' Oxford faculty even dragged her parents into the matter.

The reason was completely silly that her parents had uploaded a photo using a frame on Facebook which contained the image and slogan of Lord Shri Ram.

The photo was spread widely for defaming her and with quotes that said:

"Relatives (possibly parents) celebrating the destruction of a Mosque in India and establishment of a Hindu Temple on the site."

The truth is Rashmi Samant didn't win the elections because she was a Hindu in fact because of her points she made in the presidential debate.

In her campaign, Rashmi exposed the brutality of colonization and how it is hidden from the British students by not including it in their syllabus!

In her recent interview on Republic TV, she quoted some statements which show the pathetic mindset dwelling in the traditional colonel era of the UK.

The quotes are:

"I don't know who these people are because mostly they were faceless, because I think they do take pleasure in being anonymous and in hounding people from behind...basically, they are just keyboard warriors."

"The occasional posts 'eventually started getting picked up.' These tweets were literally misinterpretations and they were very provocative and an apology was demanded. When I finally did make an apology, it was deemed unfit by the same group and I was pretty much cornered into resigning."

The Below Quote proofs that even Faculty was involved in this Bulley campaign:

"A man almost twice her age and having an academic career as long as her age found it suitable to stalk, harass, and publicly defame me because I’m a Hindu. My home state was dragged into it. The university where I pursued my bachelor’s degree [Manipal Insitute of Technology (MIT), Karnataka] was ragged into it. And to make it worse, parents were the topic of the entire discussion there.”

"There’s been outpouring support from everywhere. I have filed a complaint with the university but they are yet to do something. And I’m looking at all perspectives that can be pursued to make sure that this man will not do the same thing he did to me and that another Rashmi will not be canceled.”
