How to Handle Stage Fear? My Experience...

Becoming a public speaker or the center of attraction with your words is said to be an art that only a few have.

Well, not really! From my own experience, I say confidently that public speaking isn't something that you get by birth, it's a learnable skill.

How to Handle Stage Fear?

What ruins your speech?

Stage fear, one of the most common things we have in ourselves. Most of you must have noticed when you are asked to go on the dais to speak in front of some people, your first reaction is that you will be very much hesitant right? Your legs and fingers vibrate, you sweat like hell, your throat becomes dry like a desert, your hearts starts beating so hard you feel like its gonna pop out of your chest and so many other things happen to you.

A small incident of my past...

Ha, I just remembered an incident; In my school, our physics teacher always ought to bring out the inner talents in students. Especially to bring confidence and to remove the Stage Fear in us. You may not be, but I would be quite surprised but be happier that in-spite of being in a physics class, I could get a golden opportunity to develop my self-confidence.

But I saw that other students (except a few including me) thought that our teacher wanted to humiliate them, to insult them in front of others. To take revenge on them! I literally can't believe that they think so about the teacher.

After the class, those groups of students would say to others: "What is his problem!? He came to teach Physics but trying to insult us. Let something bad happen to him". So they never understood the real intention of our teacher. Huh, let it be; anyways this is the same almost everywhere. Can't do anything about it.

How to kill your Stage Fear then?

But in my aspect, the number one thing that kills your stage fear is exposure to it. Yes! exposure to stage fear.

Let me tell you one of my past incidents:

When I was about 11 years old, I participated in a competition held in our club. Those who participated had to tell a story in the state's language. The one who told the best would win.

(Well I want to say something here, the language I have to speak in is my mother tongue itself!, but I was always in English medium school. So it was difficult for me to speak with my mother tongue fluently. I was very poor at it that time) So here starts the preparation for it; Gosh I never said approximately even a single line correctly. Preparation became a shit.

And the day has come! So I just went on the stage, probably shivering from inside, and uttered my first words.....  whose grammar and pronunciation were totally wrong.....! But still, I went on uttering. While in the meantime I saw many people laughing at me. But I was lucky that I was only 11. (You get some excuse if you're a kid ;)

But from that day, I ought not to face like this anymore. Next time, I was prepared(In English). And it went on well. And again the next time, it became a success.

A small thought of mine:

So that's what I want you to learn from here:
